Girl meets prince, Girl loses prince. Girl gets prince back—right? Well, that's what Valerie Winslow is hoping. She's back in Schwerinborg after spending time with her mom (and mom's girlfriend, Gabrielle) in the good ol' U.S. of A., and she's hoping the sparks will fly between her and Georg. At first it looks like everything is fabulous, but a ski trip to the Alps brings out Val's not-so-nice side, and what should have been a romantic weekend turns into a very bumpy ride.
Niki learned to ski in Europe, where she lived while she was a teenager. At the time, Niki was terrified of skiing down anything resembling a black diamond run, very much like Valerie. Since Schwerinborg is in the Alps—fictionally, at least—that puts a number of great ski resorts within easy driving distance, so Niki thought it'd be fun to set part of Do-Over at an Austrian ski resort. She based the resort lodge in the book on those she visited as a teenager.
